IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings Retained & Released players
The joint-most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced their list of retentions and released players on Sunday, November 26 ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction on December 19. The five-time champions has released eight players namely Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Dwaine Pretorius, K Bhagath Verma, Subhranshu Senapati, Akash Singh, Kyle Jamieson, Sisanda Magala and have a remaining purse of 32.10 Crore.
Apart from that, they’ve shown faith in several youngsters such as Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Choudhary and Nishant Sandhu among others.
In 2023, Chennai finished the league stage on the second spot on the points table with eight wins from 14 matches having 17 points to their name. The MS Dhoni-led side was further crowned champions for a record-levelling fifth time as they beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a thrilling final.
Chennai Super Kings reached the final of the first-ever edition in 2008 but failed to clinch the trophy as they lost to Rajasthan Royals. They further went on to win back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. The MS Dhoni-led side added three more titles to its name by winning the 2018, 2021 and 2023 editions to become the joint-most successful team in the history of the league along with Mumbai Indians with five titles to their name.
Apart from five title wins, Chennai has also finished as the runner-up five times in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019. CSK have reached the playoffs of every edition they’ve played in (didn’t play in 2016 and 2017) apart from 2020 where they finished on the second-last spot with six wins from 14 matches having 12 points to their name.
Having a good enough amount of remaining purse, CSK will look to make valuable additions to their squad in the mini-auction and have a shot at their seventh title win in the upcoming season.
