Indian cricket’s golden boys & girls felicitated by BCCI in Delhi
On October 10, in Delhi, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and Roger Binny, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, honoured the Indian contingent with a felicitation ceremony. The Indian team secured the Gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games by competing against Afghanistan in the tournament’s final match.
In the final, Afghanistan set a target of 112 runs for India to chase during their batting innings. However, due to the intervention of rain, the match was abandoned, and India was declared the winner based on their higher seeding.
In a photo, the complete men’s and women’s cricket squads can be seen alongside Roger Binny and Jay Shah. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the undefeated men’s team, while Harmanpreet Kaur captained the undefeated women’s team. Both teams secured their spots in the final, and the women’s team successfully defended 116 runs to clinch the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka in the final match.
This historic achievement marked the first time in Indian cricket history that teams participated in the Asian Games and emerged as gold medalists. BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah praised the Indian players for their outstanding performance in the Asian Games during a felicitation ceremony held on Tuesday, 10th October, at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.
