India announce squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to begin on October 3. Harmanpreet Kaur has been announced as the captain, while Smriti Mandhana has been named her deputy. Meanwhile, Yashtika Bhatia and Shreyanka Patil have been included in the squad but their selection is subject to fitness.
Several notable names, including Rajeshwari Gaekwad, Harleen Deol, and Shikha Pandey, have missed the squad. Pandey decided to play for Trinbago Knight Riders in the ongoing Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) to make it to the India squad. Still, the team management preferred an extra spinner as the conditions in the United Arab Emirates will heavily favour them.
