ICC clarifies Rassie van der Dussen’s unfortunate dismissal
Game 26 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 was full of controversies and thrilling moments. From Aiden Markram’s runout to a brilliant finish to the game, the clash had everything the fans expect from a game of the World Cup. However, one of the biggest talking points from the clash was the dismissal of star Proteas batter Rassie Van der Dussen.
In the ninth over, Dussen was given out LBW on-field, and a major uproar was caused after there were some problems with the DRS, which showed different results. However, an ICC spokesperson came forward to shed light on the matter. In what was a baffling statement, the official revealed that the motion graphic which was displayed during the game was incomplete.
“In today’s match between South Africa and Pakistan, an incomplete graphic was erroneously displayed during the LBW review of Rassie van der Dussen,” an ICC spokesperson told Sportskeeda.
“The completed graphic with the right details was ultimately displayed,” he added.
Rassie van der Dussen reviewed the umpire’s call after he was given out, and as the players awaited the review on the big screen, a ball-tracking window came up for a split second, which showed impact to be ‘umpire’s call’ and wickets to be ‘missing’. However, it was taken down in a split second and the ball tracking was shown again from the start. This time, the review showed the umpire’s call on both impact and wickets and as the decision was upheld, Dussen was sent packing to the pavilion.
