I would love to play Tests for India: Deepak Chahar
Indian pacer Deepak Chahar managed to be a part of India’s lineup for the ongoing five-game T20I series between India and Australia. He was not a part of the squad for the first three games but was added to the squad for the final two of the series.
Chahar has represented India in white-ball cricket quite a few times; however, he is yet to play Test cricket for the Indian team. Speaking of the same, Chahar came forward to opine that he feels ready for the longest format. However, he did claim that he needs to be informed a month prior to playing in the longest format so he can better prepare himself to give his best for the national team.
“There is preparation involved in everything we do. If you look at it, my preparation was good for the Ranji Trophy and also for the IPL (last season). I will not be able to play a test match if I am suddenly informed that I’ll play a test. For that matter, no one else probably can,” Chahar told JioCinema.
“If I am told one month in advance, then I’ll prepare accordingly. I will increase my workload accordingly. I have the swing; I have the ideas; it’s just that I’ll need a month to prepare. I would love to play Tests for India,” he added.
It is worth noting that Chahar has played 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is for the Indian team, where he has taken 45 wickets across the two formats. He is yet to receive his maiden Test cap for the Indian team, and he was also not selected for the upcoming red-ball series against South Africa.
As the wait for the 31-year-old continues, it could be interesting to see how he fares when he eventually gets the nod in Test cricket.
