The ICC Cricket World Cup has a long history of 48 years where 12 editions of the tournament have been played and the 13th one is underway. In the long history of the World Cup, several records have been set and broken as players from all nations have etched their names in the record books. The ODI World Cup has featured several high-scoring games as well where the crowd has enjoyed the batters mercilessly thrashing the bowlers all around the park. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three matches from the ODI World Cup with the highest aggregate of runs.
3) 688 runs, Australia vs Sri Lanka, Match 32, Sydney, World Cup 2015
After opting to bat first, Australia posted a massive score of 376/9 in their allotted 50 overs with Glenn Maxwell top-scoring with 102 off 53 balls. In reply, Kumar Sangakkara starred for Sri Lanka with his magnificent hundred (104 off 107). However, he could not save his team from a loss as they were bundled out for 312 in 46.2 overs.
2) 714 runs, Australia vs Bangladesh, Match 26, Nottingham, World Cup 2019
After Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first, David Warner vindicated the decision with his innings of 166 (147) smashing 14 fours and five sixes. Courtesy of his knock, Australia posted a massive score of 381/5. However, Bangladesh also gave a strong reply with Mushfiqur Rahim’s splendid unbeaten century (102 off 87). But he could not help his team get over the line as they finished their innings on 333/8.

Records were sent for a toss during the fourth match of the 2023 edition of the tournament as Quinton de Kock (100 off 84), Rassie van der Dussen (108 off 110) and Aiden Markram (106 off 54) notched up hundreds for South Africa. Markram went on to register the fastest hundred in World Cup history off just 49 balls helping his side to post the highest score in World Cup history of 428/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Kusal Mendis got his team off to a sensational start with his breathtaking innings of 76 off 42 balls. Charith Asalanka (79 off 65) and Dasun Shanaka (68 off 62) also made valuable contributions as Sri Lanka finished their innings on 326 in 44.5 overs.
