Dhoni has made blunders, Rohit, you’ll never see a blunder: Parthiv Patel
The Indian Premier League (IPL) in 17 editions has seen a healthy rivalry between the most successful franchises, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Both franchises have secured five titles each, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni respectively.
As the 2024 season approaches, all eyes are on these two legends as Dhoni potentially will play his last IPL season while Rohit has handed over the MI captaincy baton to Hardik Pandya.
Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel recently made a bold claim, stating that while Dhoni has made blunders during tense IPL games, Rohit Sharma has been flawless in his decision-making over the years.
Sometimes wrong decisions or blunders are made: Parthiv Patel
Parthiv highlighted the difference in the captaincy styles of the two icons. He pointed to instances where Dhoni has made questionable decisions, like handing over to part-timer Pawan Negi in a crunch situation.
“Dhoni has made blunders like giving Pawan Negi an over, but if you see Rohit, you’ll never see a blunder. Keeping the process simple is something that Dhoni advises but we see Rohit practice that in games,” Parthiv told Jio Cinema on Tuesday.
In contrast, Parthiv struggled to recall a single blunder from Rohit in his decade-long reign at MI.
“When there’s a tense match, sometimes wrong decisions or blunders are made. But the hallmark of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is that in the last 10 years, you don’t remember that he made a blunder,” he added.
The former wicketkeeper praised Rohit’s ability to stay calm under pressure, “The best example is the two IPLs MI won by just one run each. That would not have been possible if you didn’t have a captain who can stay calm on the ground, Parthiv said.
Zaheer Khan also backed Partiv’s comment saying, “You can plan for a game in advance but nobody knows how proceedings will unfold in the middle. He (Rohit) acts according to situations and takes decisions, and many times they are different from what may have been planned in the run-up to the game.”
MI and CSK won’t be facing each other in the first phase of IPL 2024. With the schedule of General Elections out, BCCI will be soon announcing the schedule for the second phase.
