Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia take charge as BCCI’s new secretary and treasurer

In a significant development for Indian cricket, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been unanimously elected as the Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), respectively. Their appointments were finalized during a Special General Meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on January 12, 2025.

The election process was overseen by Electoral Officer A.K. Joti, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities. Both Saikia and Bhatia were elected unopposed, reflecting the unanimous support from the state associations and the cricketing fraternity.

BCCI President Roger Binny extended his congratulations, stating, “I warmly congratulate Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia on their well-deserved appointments. They inherit the remarkable legacy of Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar, who set exemplary benchmarks. With their administrative expertise and financial insight, I am confident they will propel Indian cricket to greater heights.”

Vice-President Rajeev Shukla echoed these sentiments, describing the appointments as a new era for the administrative framework of Indian cricket. He emphasized the collective commitment to enhancing cricket infrastructure, fostering talent, and making the sport more accessible across the nation.

Devajit Saikia, previously serving as the BCCI Joint Secretary, brings a wealth of experience in cricket administration and law. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, known for his professional expertise, is expected to contribute significantly to the financial management of the board. Their leadership is anticipated to steer Indian cricket towards continued success and development.
