DC vs RR Review: Delhi outclass high-flying Rajasthan
Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Capitals in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on May 7. RR won the toss and opted to field first. Jake Fraser-McGurk (50 off 20) and Abhishek Porel (65 off 36) provided a blitz of a start to DC. Later, Shai Hope (1 off 1) and Axar Patel (15 off 10) could not solidify the middle while Rishabh Pant (15 off 13) struggled to amplify the run rate. However, Tristan Stubbs (41 off 20) and Gulbadin Naib (19 off 15) provided the much-needed boost as DC posted a fighting 221 for 8 on board.
While chasing, Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 off 2) and Jos Buttler (19 off 17) lacked the usual touch as Sanju Samson (86 off 46) and Riyan Parag (27 off 22) tried to keep up with the DC-like assault. Shubham Dubey (25 off 12) and Rovman Powell (13 off 8) failed to calibrate the required run rate. Debutant Donovon Ferreira (1 off 3) and R Ashwin (2 off 3) fell for Kuldeep’s class spin. Eventually, DC outclassed the formidable RR by 20 runs.
Top Performer of the Match
Sanju Samson (86 off 46)
Sanju Samson seems to making amends for his T20 World Cup 2024 selection. After getting dismissed for a duck in the previous match, he organized his innings quite well. He took the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma to the cleaners. Just when RR was slipping into a precarious position, he held onto one end. He smashed eight boundaries and six maximums and ended with a strike rate of 186.96.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3 for 24)
Ravichandran Ashwin was at his economical best as runs galore at one end. He bowled some tight lines and did not provide room for batters to play freely. He picked the dangerous Fraser-McGurk and later outsmarted Axar Patel with a flighted delivery. Abhishek Porel, who was eyeing for a big score was his last scalp of the day.
What’s next for both teams?
Rajasthan Royals will take on Chennai Super Kings in Match 61 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 12. Delhi Capitals will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 62 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 12.
