DC vs LSG Review: Ashutosh pulls off a heist in Vizag

Match 4 of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants was won by DC by one wicket at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Monday, March 24.

Opting to field first, DC had proceedings under control for the first couple of overs. The remainder of the four overs of the powerplay belonged to LSG. LSG ended the powerplay on 64/1. The 20-year-old, Vipraj Nigam, scalped his maiden wicket of the IPL in his first over. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran’s surge with the bat powered LSG to 117/1 at the halfway stage.

Mukesh Kumar dismissed Marsh, with the Australian having bludgeoned 72 off 36 deliveries while Tristan Stubbs was launched for 28 runs in his first over by Pooran before Rishabh Pant was dismissed for a six-ball duck. LSG’s innings suffered a mini-collapse from that point. David Miller ended up unbeaten on 27 off 19 deliveries with two consecutive sixes at the end of the innings. Kuldeep was the pick of the bowlers, ending up with a two-wicket haul, conceding only 20 runs in his four-over quota.

Chasing 210 for victory was a horror start for DC as Shardul Thakur dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel in the first over itself. By the end of the first six overs, four of DC’s batters were back in the hut. It seemed all but over for DC after 10 overs. They had only managed 88 by that point with half their side gone.

However, Ashutosh Sharma, who came in as an Impact Player, combined with Nigam to bring their side back into the game with some exquisite power-hitting. Nigam departed for a vital 15-ball 39, but Ashutosh did not stop there. He propelled along and clutched the win in the last over of the game, ending up with a career-best IPL score of 66* off 31 deliveries. Another debutant in the match, Digvesh Rathi, picked up two wickets conceding 31 runs.

Top Performers of the match

Nicholas Pooran (75 of 30)

The aggressive left-handed batter started his IPL 2025 campaign with a bang. LSG’s vice-captain was on song during his 30-ball stay in the middle, smashing seven sixes and six fours throughout.

Mitchell Starc (3/42 in four overs)

Despite two of Mitchell Starc’s wickets being of the lower order batters, his reverse-swinging delivery to dismiss the dangerous-looking Pooran was probably where LSG lost the plot during their innings.

What’s next for both sides?

DC will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, March 30, at the same venue next. As for LSG, they will be playing the same opponents in Hyderabad on Thursday, March 27. DC and LSG’s games are scheduled at 3:30 pm (IST) and 7:30 pm (IST), respectively.
