David Warner eyes potential return from retirement for BGT

David Warner, who had previously announced his retirement from Test and international T20 cricket, is now considering a return to the field ahead of the 2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite stepping away from the longest format, Warner has stated he is open to helping Australia if needed, indicating his desire to contribute to one of cricket’s most prestigious rivalries.

Warner’s return could be a significant boost for Australia, as they seek experience in their batting lineup to counter the strong Indian team. His impressive record in the series and aggressive playing style have often been critical in Australia’s performances against India, making him a valuable asset.

“I am always available, just got to pick up the phone. I am always dead serious. Let’s be honest, the guys have played one red-ball game since their last Test matches in February, so I’ve almost had the same preparation. Honestly, if they needed me for this series, I’m more than happy to play the next Shield game and go out there and play,” Warner told Code Sports.

Although Warner retired from Test cricket last year and finished his T20 career in 2024, his willingness to return underlines his passion for representing his country at the highest level, whether Australia will call on Warner remains to be seen, but his potential comeback will undoubtedly excite the cricketing world.
