CSK vs GT Review: Dube, bowlers make it two in two for Chennai
Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans collided in the Match 7 of the Indian Premier League 2024, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 26. GT won the toss and opted to bowl first before CSK openers were off to a brisk start as Rachin Ravindra (46 off 20) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 off 36) piled up 62 runs. Ajinkya Rahane (12 off 12) departed early but Shivam Dube (51 off 23) wreaked havoc while Daryl Mitchell (24 off 20) and Sameer Rizvi (14 off 6) fetched valuable runs at death to take CSK to a mammoth 206/6.
Chasing a stiff target, GT was finding the rhythm with timely boundaries but Shubman Gill (8 off 5) departed early. Wriddhiman Saha (21 off 17) followed him, as Sai Sudharsan (37 off 31) and Vijay Shankar (12 off 12) lacked daring. David Miller (21 off 16) showed some intent but perished trying to flick one for a boundary. Rahul Tewatia (6 off 11) and Rashid Khan (1 off 2) failed to create the magic down the order as CSK emerged victorious by 63 runs on the back of Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande’s two wickets each spell.
Top Performers of the Match
Shivam Dube (51 off 23)
Shivam Dube has turned into a different batter altogether after being promoted up the order. Coming into bat at number four, short deliveries do not seem to trouble him much now. He smashed five maximums and two boundaries as at the end of his innings, the strike rate column read a whopping 221.74. He accelerated the game when Gaikwad toned down a bit and forged a 57-run partnership with Mitchell.
Deepak Chahar (2 for 28)
Deepak Chahar broke the momentum GT’s openers had created upfront. He dismissed their captain Shubman Gill who was slowly getting into the groove. He later went on to break Wriddhiman Saha’s focus as he thud one onto his helmet, on the subsequent delivery Saha handed a catch over to Tushar Deshpande. GT’s downfall started from that moment executed by Chahar with his variations.
What’s next for both teams?
Chennai Super Kings will take on Delhi Capitals in Match 13 at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31 whereas Gujarat Titans will host Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad the same day.
