Birthday special: Ellyse Perry – Top 3 performances in international cricket
One of the finest cricketers in the modern-day game- Australia’s all-rounder Ellyse Perry- turns 32 today (3rd November). Her fiery spells with the ball and her magnificent match-winning knocks in international and league-based matches have been a treat to the eyes over the years. Perry is currently one of the senior players in the Australian squad and has more than a decade of experience. Having made her international debut in 2007, she has been a prolific bowler and a brilliant middle-order for Australia across all formats and has dominated the all-rounder’s role in the side.
Let us have a look at her top three performances over the years in international cricket-
3) 7/22 vs England, 2019
Most of Ellyse Perry’s best performances have come against arch-rivals England. When Australia toured their nation in 2019, Perry wreaked havoc in the third ODI and picked up seven wickets in her 10-over spell. While defending 269 runs, she gave away only 22 runs while bowling four maiden overs, and maintained an economy of 2.20 in the game, thereby guiding Australia to a massive 194-run victory.
2) 3/38 & 6/32 vs England, 2015
Perry was at her peak when Australia toured England back in 2015. The two teams locked horns in a one-off Test, where Perry showcased brilliance with the red ball. In the first innings, she picked up three wickets while giving away 38 runs, and continued her good form in the second innings by picking up a fifer and ending the game with six wickets under her belt. As a result, Australia won the game by 161 runs.
1) 213* vs England, 2017
Ellyse Perry has been a part of 19 Tests so far in her career, and her best performance came in 2017 against England, when the two teams locked horns during the Ashes in Sydney. Perry picked up three wickets in the first innings and then followed it up with a magnificent 213*(374), which powered Australia to 448/9 before they declared the innings. However, the game ended in a draw.
