BCCI reports record surge in its revenues since COVID dip

In a momentous development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a staggering surge in their financial fortunes for the current fiscal year. With an astounding income of INR 2,198.23 crore reported, Treasurer Ashish Shelar shared this exciting news with board members during the BCCI Annual General Meeting held in Goa on Monday, September 25th.

This fiscal year has witnessed a remarkable turnaround for the BCCI, with revenue soaring to INR 6,558.80 crore. This impressive leap in earnings, when compared to the previous financial year’s income of INR 4,360.57 crore, underscores the BCCI’s remarkable resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

The BCCI, much like the entire sporting world, weathered the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a significant dip in revenue during the 2021-22 season. Treasurer Ashish Shelar attributed this downturn to the pandemic, revealing,

“This is to bring to your notice that due to Covid 19, the cricketing season in 21-22 was cut down to only three tournaments. The domestic season of 2020-21 was at full strength except for a few junior tournaments, like Under 16, etc. However, the year 2022-23 brought back all the hopes and confidence to conduct entire domestic season with enthusiasm,” Shelar told the members of the state associations as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Shelar credits BCCI Ex and Present officials for its magnanimous rise over the years

As the custodian of the BCCI’s financial well-being, Ashish Shelar expressed his commitment to preserving and strengthening the organization’s financial health. Quoting the collective effort of past and present officials. Furthermore, he commended the unwavering dedication and determination exhibited by the BCCI, stating

“The baton handed over to me by my predecessors in a very healthy financial position and I will make sure that it grows stronger as time passes to see in a position and where the BCCI stands today is a result of collective effort by all the ex and present officials. The broad horizon of vision in the form of leadership along with a strong commitment of all members of the BCCI has taken the sport of cricket to such a respectable height in a span of very few years.”
