Ayushmann Khurrana set to play Sourav Ganguly in cricketer’s biopic
Bollywood superstar Ayushmann Khurrana is all set to play the role of former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic. With the biopics of cricketers being the talk of the town with the MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev’s movie, it seems like Ganguly is next in line.
As per a report established by Peeping Moon, Bollywood producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg are set to make an ambitious biopic on Ganguly, with Ganguly in the lead role. Vikramaditya Motwane will be directing the movie, and he is well-known for movies like Udaan, Lootera, and Jubilee.
“Producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, who are producing this film under their Luv Films banner, have hit a six by bringing together Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane. Both have established themselves as formidable forces with an incredible body of work throughout the years,” a source in the know was quoted as saying by Peeping Moon.
“Ayushmann, also a left-handed batsman like Ganguly, is a perfect fit for his biopic, while Motwane has already proven his mastery with films such as Udaan, Lootera, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, and Jubilee. Stakeholders are fired up and gung-ho about the kind of cinematic masterpiece they are set to create together. The film will officially be announced soon,” the source added.
MS Dhoni to play a cameo in Ganguly’s biopic
Furthermore, there were several reports that Ranbir Kapoor was selected to play Ganguly’s role in the movie, but Ayushmann Khuranna came forward to take the role. Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, is also reported to play a cameo role in the movie. There were several other directors, like Aishwarya Rajinikanth, but the plan fizzled out, with Motwane selected as the optimal director for the film.
Besides, actor Ayushmann Khurrana is expected to undergo tough training and cricket sessions to prepare for his role in playing Ganguly. The shooting for the film is expected to get underway in the latter stages of 2024.
