WTC Final: Australia to face South Africa in June at Lord’s
Australia has secured a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, scheduled to take place at Lord’s in June 2025. This achievement follows their 3-1 series victory over India, culminating in a six-wicket win in the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The triumph not only ended a decade-long wait for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but also elevated Australia’s points percentage to 63.73%, ensuring their qualification for the WTC final. They are set to face South Africa, who confirmed their spot earlier in the cycle with a tense two-wicket win over Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test.
Captain Pat Cummins expressed immense pride in his team’s accomplishments, highlighting the significance of winning all bilateral titles in Test cricket, including the WTC crown they earned by defeating India in 2023. He also praised the exceptional performance of pace bowler Scott Boland, who was instrumental in the series victory.
Looking ahead, Australia is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series before the WTC final. These matches will serve as crucial preparation as they aim to defend their WTC title against a formidable South African side at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
