Asian Games 2022: 5 Indian players to watch out for
The Asian Games Men’s T20I tournament is already underway in Hangzhou with 13 teams participating in one of the most elite competitions in the world. Asian giants team India will be playing their first match on Tuesday, October 03rd, 2023 which will also be the first quarter-final fixture. India can proceed further in the semi-final if they are able to beat their opponents in the quarters. Plenty of talented cricketers have boarded the plane to Hangzhou as we look at some of the promising stars in the upcoming event.
Let’s take a look at the 5 Indian players to watch out for in this competition:
1) Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad will be donning the captaincy hat for India in the competition. The right-handed opening batter has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title twice with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Gaikwad has played 105 T20 innings, scoring 3503 runs at an average of 36.48 and a strike-rate of 136. Gaikwad has struck three centuries and 25 fifties in the format with the highest score of 114.
2) Yashasvi Jaiswal
The 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal had a breathtaking 2023 IPL edition. The left-handed opening batter slammed 625 runs in 14 innings at an average of 48.07, including one century and five half-centuries. After his stellar performance, Jaiswal also got his maiden India call-up for the West Indies tour. The youngster will be one of the players to watch out for team India in this tournament.
3) Rinku Singh
Like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh also enjoyed a solid 2023 IPL campaign. The left-handed batter smashed the most runs for his franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The 25-year-old hit 474 runs in 14 innings at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.52 which also included four half-centuries. Rinku too received his maiden India call-up after the IPL and he now would like to replicate his IPL performances in the Asian games.
4) Ravi Bishnoi
Legspinner Ravi Bishnoi has almost become a permanent member of the playing XI in the IPL. Having represented India in 14 international matches, the 23-year-old youngster has picked up 105 wickets in 90 T20 games at an impressive average of 23.15 and with the best bowling figures of 4/15. Bishnoi is the only specialist spinner in the squad apart from all-rounders Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed.
5) Arshdeep Singh
Seamer Arshdeep Singh has picked up 50 wickets for India in 33 T20 international matches. The left arm medium fast bowler has also snared 123 scalps in 98 T20 games at an average of 23.30 and a strike rate of 16.6. The 24-year-old pacer will lead the bowling attack for India and is expected to deliver the goods with also his death bowling,
