Nathan Lyon wants to be a part of Australian team that wins Test series in India

Australia have had a hard time against India in the longest format lately. Having lost to India in their last two series at home, the Aussies suffered massive criticism from different corners. However, veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon is determined to give India a taste of their own medicine. Lyon expressed his desire of being a part of the Australian team that wins a Test series on Indian soil.

It has to be noted that India haven’t suffered a Test series defeat at home since 2012. In fact, they have only lost a couple of matches on home soil in this period. Hence, defeating them would take some beating. While Lyon is also aware of the fact, the veteran cricketer is ready to embrace the challenge and upset the Indian team at their fortress.

Winning a Test series in India is a goal: Nathan Lyon

“One of the big goals is I’d really like to be part of an Australian team that can win a Test series in India. I think I can play a massive role in that as well. That’s definitely one of my big goals. I think that’s one of the big goals team-wise. That is a big focus,” Lyon said, according to Sydney Morning Herald.

A veteran of 100 Test matches, Lyon has played a couple of Test series in India. The off-spinner even performed exceptionally. However, his efforts weren’t able to take the Aussies to glory. Hence, it would be interesting to see if his dreams come true. Meanwhile, Lyon also opened up about Australia’s humiliating 2-1 defeat against India earlier this year.

“I don’t think we did the basics well enough for long enough – that’s purely what it comes down to. We didn’t take our chances when we created the chances in the field,” said Lyon, who’s just one short of 400 Test wickets.

“In Test cricket, I’ve played enough of it to realise if you do the basics for a long period of time and challenge people’s defence you’ll create chances here and there. That’s one big area we can get better,” he added. Meanwhile, Lyon is currently gearing up for the high-voltage Ashes at home which gets underway on December 8.
