My immediate target is to play for India in next 18 months time: Yash Dhull

U19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull recently earned his maiden call up in the Delhi squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season 2021-22. The 19-year-old has registered for the IPL 2022 mega auction and is expected to grab the attention of certain franchises as well. He scored a brilliant 110 in the semi-finals against the Australian U-19 side that set up the win for India U19 in the Caribbean and does possess a calm shoulder.

A lot of positives from the youngster have been listed already including his excellent fielding skills in the circle and he has joined the list of U19 World Cup-winning captains from Delhi, Virat Kohli in 2008 and Unmukt Chand in 2012. It will be a huge task for Dhull to replicate the success of Kohli in international cricket while Chand was in no way lesser in terms of having an excellent potential with the bat.

I will keep working hard till I attain my goal: Yash Dhull

Dhull mentioned that he hasn’t been able to sleep in the last few days with the amount of travel he has had from the Caribbean and noted that he is ready to focus on the upcoming challenges. He also mentioned setting a time frame of 18 months to make sure he sticks to his goal to play for India and doesn’t want to be overwhelmed with the comparisons to successful cricketers from the past who won U19 World Cups for India.

“I have hardly slept the last few days but it is not something I can complain about. What I have done till now is done, I need to focus on what lies in the immediate future,” Dhull was quoted by Zee News. “That is my target but If I am not able to do that in the 18 month time frame, I will keep working hard till I attain my goal.”

“The names you have taken (Kohli and Chand), I am not thinking on those lines. I want to remain humble and not think about the future too much,” he added.

Dhull went to explain the chat with Virat ahead of the finals that had helped him to lay a path for success and also do identify the do’s and dont’s after a successful campaign in the U-19 World Cup. Dhull will have just a week time to switch over to Red ball cricket as he already joined the Delhi Ranji Trophy squad and it will be interesting to see how the youngster goes about his business.

“Virat bhai shared his experience with me on what happened with him post the U19 World Cup (in 2008). I got to know a lot from approaching my career from here on, the chat with him has helped me understand things I need to focus on going forward and things I need to avoid,” he said when asked about his conversation with Kohli on the eve of the World Cup final on Saturday.
