Mumbai’s Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes youngest List A double-centurion
Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 203 against Jharkhand at Alur, Bangalore in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 17-year old thus became the youngest batsman to score a list A double century. This is the third double century scored in the tournament and second in this season. Earlier, Sanju Samson had recorded the highest individual score of the competition with 212 against Goa.
Mumbai batting first in their encounter opened with the successful pair of Jaiswal and Aditya Tare. The duo batted steadily and soon went past milestones one by one. Tare fell on the team score of 200 where his individual contribution was 78. Jaiswal then pushed his case and assumed the leading role in the partnership with Siddhesh Lad. The 17-year old soon moved towards the elusive double century. In the final stages of the innings, he brought up his 200. Jaiswal eventually got out on 203 with two balls remaining in the innings.
Jaiswal’s double ton is ninth such occurrence in Indian cricket. Sachin Tendulkar was the first batsman to reach that figure with his mammoth feat against South Africa at Gwalior in 2010. Rohit Sharma owns three double centuries in ODIs which is also a world-record. Virender Sehwag had smashed 219 against West Indies in an ODI. Apart from these international doubles, Shikhar Dhawan, Karn Veer Kaushal and Sanju Samson have brought up the milestone in List A cricket.
