Mumbai Indians: World’s most decorated franchise

Mumbai Indians (MI) have become the dream team in franchise cricket over the years. With the best players, coaches, support staff, and a growing fan base, MI has built a legacy that excels not only in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but other major leagues across the globe.

MI’s journey to the top began with their maiden IPL final appearance in 2010 when they finished as runners-up. The franchise strengthened its core by backing players like Rohit Sharma, Zaheer Khan, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga. While on one side they had young energy, on the other corner were the likes of game legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Anil Kumble, Jonty Rhodes, and so on.

This investment in quality talent paid off brilliantly as MI clinched their first IPL title in 2013 under Rohit’s captaincy. From there, they went on to become one of the strongest teams, winning joint most IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and two Champions League T20 (CLT20) titles in 2011 and 2013.

While IPL remains MI’s stronghold, the franchise has successfully expanded across global franchise leagues. The Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)- owned team has acquired teams in India’s Women’s Premier League, South Africa’s SA20, the UAE’s ILT20, the USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC), and most recently, England’s The Hundred.

The Mumbai Indians franchise has tasted success in every tournament they have participated in. After winning the inaugural WPL title in 2023, they repeated the feat in 2025, with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeating Delhi Capitals in the summit clash. Furthermore, MI New York won the 2023 Major League Cricket, MI Emirates secured the 2024 ILT20 title, and MI Cape Town clinched the 2025 SA20 trophy.

RIL, through its subsidiary RISE Worldwide, recently strengthened MI’s global footprint by successfully acquiring a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, a franchise in England’s The Hundred. Interestingly, Oval Invincibles’ men’s and women’s teams have already lifted titles, winning The Hundred in 2023, 2024, 2021, and 2022, respectively, making them a strong addition to the MI family.

Meanwhile, for the 2025 IPL season, they retained key players like Jasprit Bumrah (INR 18 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 16.35 crore), Hardik Pandya (INR 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (INR 16.30 crore), and Tilak Varma (INR 18 crore). In the mega auction, the side went all out to get the best of players to make a strong squad. With a mix of experienced and young players, MI is a strong contender for another IPL title.
