Mumbai appoint Ramesh Powar as their new coach
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed Ramesh Powar as their coach. The former India off-spinner replaces Amit Pagnis, who had stepped down from the position after the team’s poor showing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
“I am grateful to the MCA and CIC for trusting my abilities. I am looking forward to creating a positive environment in the side and playing a positive brand of cricket for which Mumbai is always known. I am looking forward to the assignments ahead,” Powar told Cricbuzz.
While the Ranji Trophy will not be taking place in this domestic season, Mumbai team’s next assignment will be the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mumbai are in the same group as that of Delhi, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Pondicherry in Group D. They will be playing their matches in Jaipur from February 20.
Meanwhile, the chief selector Salil Ankola told Cricbuzz that the team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be picked on Wednesday (10th February) and also confirmed the availability of Shreyas Iyer. Iyer is also likely to lead the side.
