MSK Prasad picks Suryakumar Yadav as the player to watch out for
Former India chief selector MSK Prasad has tipped Suryakumar Yadav as the player to watch out for in India’s tour of Sri Lanka in the month of July. The limited-overs series has garnered a lot of buzz due to India sending a second-string team to the Island nation since its first-choice players will be away for the England tour.
The Indian selectors have not announced the squad for the tour but in all likelihood, Yadav’s name is a certainty since he is in a rich vein of form. The 30-year-old player has made a smooth transition to international cricket by stroking a classy fifty against England in his debut T20I inning. What impressed everyone, was his composure and calm attitude at the crease.
Prasad too is impressed by the temperament of the right-handed batter and feels he will be India’s key player during the Sri Lanka series. “Suryakumar Yadav is the guy to watch out for. Ishan and Sanju also have a great opportunity at hand.
“I would have also loved to see Avesh Khan (named standby for the UK tour). He has been excellent in the IPL, and it would be unfortunate to see him miss out on playing in either series,” Prasad was quoted as saying, as reported in Times Now.
MSK Prasad mighty impressed with generation-next youngsters of the Indian team
Prasad also stated that the youngsters, coming into the Indian team, are not afraid to express themselves and are ready to showcase their abilities and skills against any of the top teams.
The former selector pointed out Yadav’s scintillating 57 runs in just his second match, which was appreciated by one and all. Not only Yadav, but even Ishan Kishan also scored a blazing fifty on his debut match and was aggressive in his approach.
“The skill level back then was similar to what we have now. But the confidence levels of the boys today are five times more than what we had then.
“Simple example: first ball, Suryakumar Yadav, gets an opportunity to play in a T20I game, smashes one of the best bowlers in the world for a six. Or Ishan Kishan, the way he blasted the opposition (England) on debut,” Prasad added.
Prasad asserted that he won’t be surprised if India’s second-string side manages to upstage Sri Lanka in their den.
