MS Dhoni needs to bat enough balls to be a threat to the opposition: Gautam Gambhir
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain MS Dhoni needs to bat higher in the batting line up to be a threat to the opposition.
Gambhir also added that Dhoni does not get to face enough deliveries in the match, and the 40-year-old can only be a threat if he gets to wield the willow. “He needs to bat to be a threat. He doesn’t bat enough balls in the game, so he needs to bat first,” said Gautam Gambhir in a chat with ESPN Cricinfo.
Former West Indies cricket legend Ian Bishop feels that since Dhoni is not able to score runs with the willow, he would like to see Ravindra Jadeja bat higher up the order. Bishop even added that Dhoni will not recapture his lost form from here on.
“Yeah, Dhoni doesn’t seem to be firing so there are other guys, certainly Ravindra Jadeja, that I would like to see get more batting opportunities. I think we’ve seen that over the course of this season, Dhoni doesn’t seem like he’ll recapture his form,” said Ian Bishop.
CSK should give Robin Uthappa another game: Ian Bishop
Gautam Gambhir further stated that he wants CSK to give Robin Uthappa another opportunity in the playing XI. “100% because you don’t want to give someone just one game and he’s probably going to come good in the next game and the playoffs,” said Gambhir.
Ian Bishop also feels that CSK should continue with Uthappa in their playing XI as Suresh Raina has not performed well with the willow this season.
“For me, yes, I would stick to Robin Uthappa because Suresh Raina has foreseen over a longer course this season and for me, hasn’t shown any goods. So I won’t give Robin just one game, I’ll give him another,” said Ian Bishop.
Chennai Super Kings will play their next match on 7th October 2021 against the KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) side at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
