MS Dhoni must play next IPL season before retirement thoughts: Virender Sehwag
MS Dhoni stunned the world by winning his 4th IPL trophy leading the side while making his ninth final outing an absolutely amazing affair. After a dismal 2020 season, Dhoni and men made a King-like comeback to claim yet another IPL glory. In the same sequence, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has backed the Ranchi stalwart to play at least one more season with the yellow army before thinking of retirement.
Sehwag added that CSK is a phenomenal team and nobody probably would be able to match his legacy in IPL. Moreover, the former batter feels that even in team India, no one could beat Dhoni’s legacy. On the IPL final night against KKR, Dhoni made it clear that ‘he still hasn’t left’ and will be seen in the upcoming season with CSK. Earlier in the day, an official from the yellow franchise also added that their first retention in the mega auction will be for their captain only.
“It’s a phenomenal team. No one in Team India could beat Dhoni’s legacy and hopefully, it would be difficult for any other captain to do the same for CSK. I feel he has one more year left in him for Chennai. He must play next season and then retire,” said Sehwag while speaking to Cricbuzz.
To match MS Dhoni will be an uphill task for any other skipper: Sehwag
Moving deep into the conversation, Sehwag added the legacy of a captain is known by the number of titles he has won. And in this case, Dhoni is on the next level, and to match him is an uphill task. Rohit Sharma is indeed close but to play nine finals as a skipper is huge and Sharma will have to pull up his socks in this case.
“The legacy of the captain is known for the number of trophies he has won. And this captain [MS Dhoni] has won four titles and played 9 finals. So, to match him up will be an uphill task for any other skipper. Rohit Sharma is indeed close but to play 9 season finals, he needs more time,” added Sehwag,
