MS Dhoni highlights importance of playing district cricket
Legendary captain MS Dhoni has said that the cricketers must be most proud of playing for their respective districts. Dhoni said the same at the silver jubilee celebration event of the Thiruvallur District Cricket Association (TDCA) in Chennai. During his speech, the veteran stumper, who was invited as chief guest, also gave a shout-out to the cricket association for successfully having completed 25 years.
Apart from Dhoni, some of the renowned cricketers of Tamil Nadu including the likes of veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik and senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also came forward and sent congratulatory messages to TDCA via video messages.
MS Dhoni on the significance of playing district cricket
“It is the first time I am part of a celebration where we are celebrating the success of a district association. Cricketers should be proud of representing their district. I am proud of the fact that I got the chance to represent my country, but it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t played for my district or school,” Dhoni said while speaking at the function.
“Congratulations to the Thiruvallur District Cricket Association for completing 25 years. It’s more than 25 years, but we are celebrating it today. I have known (RN) Baba (TDCA secretary) for a very long time. A big congrats to not only him but also others in the association,” he added.

Dhoni had led CSK in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. The Yellow Army had a forgettable season as they finished at the second-last position with just four wins from 14 matches and eight points to their tally. Dhoni had relinquished captaincy just two days before the start of the season, but disappointing results under Ravindra Jadeja’s tenure as captain meant that he was reappointed as the franchise’s skipper. However, it was too late by then as the four-time winners were already on the brink of elimination.
