MS Dhoni & Dravid in the Indian team will be a fantastic thing to watch out for in: MSK Prasad
With Ravi Shastri’s contract as Team India’s head coach expiring after the T20 World Cup 2021, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would be planning to name Shastri’s successor. Speaking on the matter, many prominent members of the cricket fraternity have named Rahul Dravid to take the position at the helm. Having mentored the India A and India Under-19 sides, Dravid is well versed with the drill.
Moreover, he was named India’s interim head coach during the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. With Dravid also being one of the finest Indian batters ever, many believe he’s the apt person to take Indian cricket forward. Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad is also of the same opinion. He also feels MS Dhoni, who has been named India’s mentor for the T20 World Cup, should serve the national serve even after the global event.
MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid in the Indian team will be a fantastic thing to watch out
“I would definitely feel that going forward it should be Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. Rahul more as a coach and MS as a mentor. Dhoni and Rahul in the Indian team will be a fantastic thing to watch out for post-Ravi Shastri’s era,” Prasad told Times of India.
Notably, many believed Dravid’s appointment for the Sri Lanka tour was a stepping stone to him succeeding Shastri. Hence, it would be interesting to see what BCCI decides in the coming days. Meanwhile, Shastri, who became India’s head coach in 2017, has done pretty in his tenure. Under him, Virat Kohli’s men registered numerous memorable triumphs both at home and overseas.
In fact, India won the Test series in Australia twice under Shastri’s guidance. However, ending India’s drought of a global title is something that Shastri couldn’t pull off. While Virat Kohli’s men advanced to the semi-final and final of 2019 World Cup and the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final respectively, they couldn’t get the glory.
Nevertheless, the T20 World Cup 2021 gives the Men in Blue another opportunity to get the glory. Shastri indeed will have a point to prove as India’s impressive campaign might see him earning another contract.
