MS Dhoni bids farewell to international cricket

One of India’s iconic captains and arguably the greatest finisher in modern-day cricket, MS Dhoni has called time on his international career with immediate effect. He made the announcement from his official Instagram handle. India’s semi-final exit in the 2019 World Cup will remain his final cricketing appearance. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman hung his Test whites back in 2014 and has now drawn the curtains on limited-overs cricket.

In a 15-year long career, Jharkand’s poster boy became the architect of India’s cricketing landscape in the late 2000s. With his shrewd captaincy tactics, pinch-hitting abilities and lightning-quick glovework, Dhoni took a talented Indian team to the pinnacle of success across formats. Making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2004, he went on to play 350 matches for India and scored 10,773 runs at a staggering average of 50.57 with 10 hundreds and 73 fifties.

Under Dhoni’s astute captaincy, India clinched the World T20 title in 2007, climbed atop the ICC Test Rankings in 2009 and went on to lift the elusive ODI World Cup in 2011.
