The Women’s T20 World Cup has witnessed Australia dominate over other countries across all editions.
As the eighth edition of the tournament begun on February 10, Australia will be leading the way as the defending champions. Having won a whopping five titles in the tournament’s seven editions so far, the Women in Yellow will be eying their record sixth title. 3. Shabnim Ismail – 35 wickets
South Africa’s pace spearhead Shabnim Ismail has been a part of the tournament since the inaugural edition in 2009. She played her first World Cup for South Africa in 2009 as a 20-year-old and will be one of the players to watch out for at the upcoming tournament. Over the years, she has played 26 T20 World Cup matches and has picked up 35 wickets at an economy of 5.82.
2. Ellyse Perry – 37 wickets
Ellyse Perry has been a core member of team Australia since the first instalment of the tournament. She was selected in Australia’s squad for the inaugural T20 World Cup in England but was a part of only four games as she picked up two wickets and scored four runs throughout. But the all-rounder has emerged as one of the key players for her side over the years and has a total of 37 wickets to her name from 36 matches at an economy of 5.77.
1. Anya Shrubsole – 41 wickets
Though Anya Shrubsole was not a part of her side’s championship-winning squad in 2009, she represented England from 2010 till the 2020 edition of the tournament. She announced her retirement in April 2022 and finished her international career as the leading wicket-taker in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Having played 27 wickets for the inaugural champions, Shrubsole has a total of 41 wickets to her name from 27 matches at an economy of 5.32
