Most wickets by a pacer in international cricket

Anderson

England completely thrashed the visitors South Africa during the second Test match played at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. England’s veteran pacer James Anderson was simply excellent with the ball as he scalped a total of six wickets in the match and became the leading wicket-taker as a pacer in the international arena. On that note, here are three pacers who have scalped the most wickets in international cricket.

3. Wasim Akram (916 wickets)

Wasim Akram comes third in the list after scalping a total of 916 wickets in the international arena for the Men in Green. The left-arm pacer made his international debut in 1984 and played his last match against Zimbabwe in 2003. Akram was known for his ability to swing the ball by a long margin and bamboozled many batting line-ups in his prime.

2. Glenn McGrath (949 wickets)

Glenn McGrath comes second in the list after finishing with 949 wickets in the international arena. The right-arm pacer had the ability to bowl and consistent line and lengths which created a lot of problems for the opposition batters. Despite not having express pace in his bowling, McGrath also had a sharp bouncer in his arsenal which he used to perfection.

1. James Anderson (951 wickets)

As mentioned above, senior pacer James Anderson comes first in the list after overtaking McGrath. The right-arm pacer currently has 951 scalps and he seems to be in his prime at the age of 40. Anderson does not represent England in white-ball formats, but he is their premier pacer in the longest format of the game. Anderson will look to continue his good show with the ball during the third and final Test match against the Proteas side.
