Most Test hundreds away from home

Steven Smith, Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Babar Azam are among few cricketers who have shown great consistency in international cricket regardless of the format. All possess great numbers across formats and are breaking records by each game. It is safe to say that Smith outnumbers all the above names when it comes to Test cricket with 8647 runs at an average of 60.89 with 30 hundreds. Root and Kohli are not far behind and are competing with Australian batters for the last few years.

Smith and Kohli have scored 14 Test hundreds each while Root has 11 while playing away. All three have proved their brilliance in tough away conditions but none of them are among the top three of most Test hundreds away from home. So, let’s take a look at the top three cricketers with most Test hundreds away from home so far:

3. 20 Hundreds – Jacques Kallis

The legendary South African cricketer ended his glorious career as arguably the best all-rounder of all time across formats. He scored 13289 Test runs, only behind Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, with the help of 45 hundreds, second to Sachin only. Out of 45 hundreds in Tests, Kallis scored 20 away from home and also maintained an impressive average of 53.94.

2. 21 Hundreds – Rahul Dravid

The former Indian captain was among the few who scored over 10000 runs in both Tests and ODIs. But his biggest impact was in Test cricket with 13228 runs at an average of 52.31 with the help of 36 hundreds. Dravid’s skills while playing in tough conditions earned him the nickname ‘The Wall’.

Dravid’s contribution while playing away was top-notch as he scored 7690 Test runs at an average of 53.03. He also recorded 21 hundreds while playing away and the joint-most 36 half-centuries in Tests.

1. 29 Hundreds – Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar amassed over 34000 runs and 100 hundreds to his name and still there is no one near his scoring and hundreds record to date. And that applies to his record for 29 away Test hundreds as well, with Virat Kohli and Steven Smith having 14 away Test centuries each. Out of his 51 Test hundreds, Sachin scored 29 in away conditions while top-scoring 8705 at an impressive average of 54.74.
