Most successful run chases in T20 World Cup history
Though the 20-over format was introduced after the traditional Test and ODI forms of the game, it is the one format that has received maximum attention from all over the world. The quickness of the game makes the format intriguing, making the players strive for more and more. The T20 World Cup was introduced in the year 2007 when India lifted the cup in the inaugural edition.
Since then, multiple records have been created at the tournament. Speaking of records, let us have a look at the most successful run chases in T20 World Cup history by the teams:
197/7 by Australia vs Pakistan in 2010
It was the second semi-final game of the T20 World Cup of 2010 when Australia and Pakistan locked horns at Gros Islet. Pakistan posted 191/6 while batting in the first innings, and Australia had to chase down 192 runs in 20 overs. While the top and middle order batters could not create an impact, Michael Hussey and Mitchell Johnson pulled off a miracle and led Australia to a win with just a ball to spare.
208/2 by South Africa vs West Indies in 2007
It was the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup when hosts South Africa faced West Indies in Johannesburg. Chris Gayle powered West Indies to a humungous total of 205/6 by notching up a 57-ball 117, including 10 sixes. But his century went in vain as Herschelle Gibbs took the Proteas to a magnificent victory with his 55-ball 90. South Africa chased down the target of 206 runs and won the game.
230/8 by England vs South Africa in 2016
South African batters were a force to be reckoned with back then, and they put their skillset on display when they faced England at the 2016 T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Even after posting a big total of 229 runs, they went on to lose the game as Jason Roy and Joe Root helped England pull off the 230-run chase and registered an emphatic victory.
