Test cricket has been fascinating to watch and Day one is always been crucial in setting up the game. Scoring rate can be decisive and the higher it goes up, the more the opposition feels the heat. With all that said, let us look at most runs scored on Day 1 of a Test.
Australia vs South Africa, 2012
The Adelaide Test in 2012 between Australia and South Africa was an interesting Test where a lot of runs were scored and the Proteas managed to draw the Test in the end with a splendid effort from Faf du Plessis in the final innings. Australia batted first after winning the Test and the hosts were reduced to 55 for 3 in the first session. However, David Warner, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey hit quickfire centuries on the same day as Australia scored a massive 482 runs on day one for the loss of 5 wickets.
Australia vs South Africa, 1910
In the Sydney Test between Australia and South Africa in 1910, as many as 494 runs were scored in the first Day of the Test for the loss of just six wickets by the hosts. Warren Bardsley, Clem Hill hit centuries while Algy Gehrs’s half-century proved to be a turning point in the first day of the Test. Australia ended up with a massive 528 in the first innings and went on to win the Test by an innings and 114 runs.
Pakistan vs England, 2022
The Rawalpindi Test between Pakistan and England had witnessed a high scoring rate on the first day as the visitors piled up a mammoth 506 for the loss of four wickets. The top three batters Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope all scored centuries and runs were flowing at a high pace on a relatively flat track.
