Most POTM awards in T20I cricket
Every player needs to be given enough credit for their performance and it certainly acts as a boost for them in their next fixture. Player of the Match award is something that the player can be very proud of and hence, it provides enough motivation for the player to keep their good work continuing. With the tough demands in T20I cricket, no player is guaranteed a place unless he keeps performing and here are the players with most POTM awards in T20I cricket.
Shahid Afridi
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is third on the list and he won 11 Player of the Match awards from the period of 2006 – 2018. Afridi was brilliant in all the three departments although his batting numbers weren’t that great in the format. He had an economy rate of 6.63 and was quite a handy batter down the order with a strike rate of 150. He certainly would rank among the best T20I players to have played the game.
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is one of the names that would be expected in any list and he has dominated the T20I format for the last decade. He averages above 50 in the format in international cricket which is exceptional and has stood up for the side in the big events. In 97 T20Is, Kohli has scored 3294 runs with 30 half centuries and has won 12 POTM awards in the process. The 33-year-old hasn’t been in the best of forms in the last couple of years, yet has managed to keep his contributions coming.
Mohammad Nabi
Mohammad Nabi has been one of the star performers for the Afghanistan since his debut in the format in 2010. The all-rounder has been four overs bank most days and is one of the most destructive finishers in the middle order. He has played various T20 leagues around the globe and has tasted a lot of success. No wonder, he is at the top of the list for most POTM awards in T20I cricket with 13 to his name. The 37-year-old is likely to add some more to his tally in the coming years.
