Most ODIs played at a venue
Zimbabwe suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Netherlands in their latest ODI on March 21, 2023, at Harare Sports Club. The Dutch side chased a 250-run target with a ball remaining to register their third straight ODI win against Zimbabwe.
This was Zimbabwe’s 150th ODI game at Harare Sports Club and a defeat proved their 100th ODI loss at a venue. The iconic venue has hosted over 150 ODI matches so far and is among the top three venues to host the most number of 50-over games.
Australia’s Sydney Cricket Ground and Melbourne Cricket Ground are not behind Harare Sports Clubs in hosting ODIs with more than 150 games. So, let’s find out which venue has hosted the most ODIs so far.
3. 160 – Sydney Cricket Ground
Sydney Cricket Ground has hosted 160 ODIs so far since hosting its first against in 1979, 10 more than Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia have won 90 of the 135 ODIs played here while West Indies, with 39 matches, are second among most ODIs played here.
2. 167 – Harare Sports club
Zimbabwe’s famous Harare Sports Club is second on this list with 167 ODI matches so far. The number is set to rise as the venue is hosting Zimbabwe’s three ODIs against Netherlands from March 21. Zimbabwe’s last ODI against Ireland in January 2023 was their 150th 50-over game here. They lost the second ODI against Ireland which was their 100th loss at Harare Sports Club.
1. 244 – Sharjah Cricket Stadium
UAE’s Sharjah Cricket Stadium has hosted 244 ODI matches so far since hosting its first game in 1984, amazingly 78 more than Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe. Pakistan has played 126 ODIs here while the venue has hosted only five of UAE ODI matches here so far. Team India has played 72 ODIs at the venue, winning 35 and losing in 37. In the most recent ODI game here, Papua New Guinea beat Nepal in March 2022.
