Most ODI wickets for India in 2022
India’s bowling was not well-known earlier in one-day international cricket. Indian bowlers initially struggled to bowl effectively in a match against powerful opposition as a team. But since the start of 2010, a fresh crop of bowlers has evolved who can take wickets in any circumstance. Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, J Srinath, and many exceptional bowlers have given the batters nightmares with their bowling.
Quite a few names are rising to the top in the current Indian squad, and the players are competing to establish themselves as the best of the bunch. As India is currently on an ODI winning streak, let us look at the top three bowlers who have scalped the most number of wickets this year, that is, since January 2022 (As of August 23, 2022).
Most wickets for India in ODIs in 2022-
14 – Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur marked his return in style when he went on a wicket-taking spree against Zimbabwe in the recently concluded ODI series. He was the star of the show in the second game where he registered figures of 3/38. Though he has been criticized for giving away runs, he is also lauded for maintaining his composure even after being hit for runs and returning with the crucial wickets. Probably that is one of the reasons why he is fondly known as ‘Lord Thakur.’
19 – Prasidh Krishna
It has not been long since Prasidh Krishna entered the Indian team. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah being a senior player has not managed to do what Krishna has done. Just two wickets behind Chahal, Krishna has 19 wickets under his belt in 2022 so far. The 26-year-old, who has only made his ODI debut so far, has picked up 25 wickets in the 14 matches that he has played since March 2021, of which he bagged 19 wickets this year, in 2022.
21 – Yuzvendra Chahal
The prolific spinner has emerged as one of the finest in the Indian contingent and is the leading wicket-taker for India currently with 21 scalps. He has been in fine touch ever since he concluded his IPL 2022 campaign, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Chahal has been one of the skipper’s go-to bowlers and has proved crucial during crunch situations. He has provided the team with a breakthrough in times of need and will continue to do so even further.
