There have been several cricketers from India who have ruled the batting charts for several years. However, amid the abundance of batting talent, some bowlers have emerged from the country who managed to make a name for themselves.

India have been largely a land of spinners where several spin wizards have taken over the world and dismissed some of the biggest names in international cricket. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three Indian bowlers with the most wickets in international cricket:

3. R. Ashwin (689 wickets)

The off-spinner made his international debut in June 2010 against Zimbabwe and quickly managed to seal his place in the team across all three formats. The Chennai-born spinner became the leader of the spin attack with the experienced players being shown the door in 2012. Ashwin has 689 wickets to his name in 347 innings at an average of 25.95 and an economy of 3.38 with 31 five wicket hauls and seven 10 wicket hauls to his name.

2. Harbhajan Singh (707 wickets)

Having made his debut way back in 1998, Harbhajan finally made his mark in the historic 2001 Test series against Australia where he finished as the highest wicket-taker. He quickly rose through the ranks and became an integral part of the team. In his 18-year-long career, Harbhajan scalped 707 wickets at an average of 32.59 and an economy of 3.32.

1. Anil Kumble (953 wickets)

The legendary wrist-spinner is the highest wicket-taker for India in both Tests and ODIs. He has 337 wickets to his name in ODIs and 619 in Tests. He also has his name among the three bowlers to pick up all ten wickets in a Test innings. The 52-year-old ranks fourth on the list of all time wicket takers in Tests. In a career spanning over 18 years, Kumble picked up 953 wickets at an average of 30.06 with 37 five-wicket hauls and eight ten-wicket hauls. He is also the fourth highest wicket-taker in international cricket.
