Most hundreds in Vijay Hazare Trophy
The just-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 saw Saurashtra lift the title with a memorable five-wicket victory over Maharashtra. While Sheldon Jackson’s unbeaten 133 guided Saurashtra to their second VHT crown, the other centurion Ruturaj Gaikwad’s valiant 108 went in vain. Without further ado, here’s a look at three batters to have scored the most centuries in Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament history to date.
3. Yashpal Singh (10):
Yashpal Singh did not find a place in the Indian team despite toiling manfully, but he has been impressive in the domestic circuit. Yashpal has been one of the consistent performers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has 10 centuries to his name in this prestigious competition. The veteran batter remains the highest run-scorer of all time in VHT, having amassed 3193 runs in 72 matches.
2. Robin Uthappa (11):
Robin Uthappa’s international career started on a promising note, but he failed to click due to inconsistent performances. However, the veteran batter has established himself as a very accomplished batter in domestic cricket. Uthappa has 11 centuries to his name in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is a tournament that he has enjoyed playing the most as his numbers in the competition suggest. He is the third-highest run-getter in VHT, having scored 3115 runs in 80 games. Moreover, the Karnataka cricketer also remains the only batter to date to finish as the leading run-scorer in two consecutive seasons (2012-13 & 2013-14).
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad (12):
It seems that Ruturaj Gaikwad is taking a quantum leap in the list of highest run-scorers in VHT history. Gaikwad amassed 603 runs in the last edition. He bettered it up this time around scoring 660 runs in five innings including a century and a double century. By the virtue of his crucial century in the summit clash against Saurashtra, the Maharashtra cricketer takes the top spot on this elite list with a record 12 centuries to his name.
