3. 33 by Andile Phehlukwayo in 2022
England pair of Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow hammered 33 runs in an over off the bowling of South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo in a T20I in Bristol this year. England batted first and during the 17th over, Bairstow struck two while Ali deposited three into the stands with Phehlukwayo also conceding two wides and a single. The English side finished up with 234/6 as Phehlukwayo went for 1/63 in his four-over spell.
2. 34 by Shivam Dube in 2020 and Nasum Ahmed in 2022
India all-rounder Shivam Dube is joint-second with Bangladesh’s Nasum Ahmed for leaking 34 runs in an over in T20Is. Dube’s unwanted record came against New Zealand’s duo of Ross Taylor and Tim Seifert in Mount Maunganui in 2020. Chasing 164 to win, the pair cracked four sixes and two fours in the tenth over which also included a no-ball and a single. Dube bowled the only over of his match with India sealing a victory.
Zimbabwe’s Ryan Burl plundered 34 runs against Bangladesh’s Ahmed in Harare this year. The hosts batted first and Burl smacked five sixes and a four to help his side posing 156/8 eventually winning by ten runs.
1. Sturat Broad in 2007 and Akila Dananjaya in 2021
India’s Yuvraj Singh etched his name into the history books when he smashed England pacer Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over to stun the cricketing world. He became the first-ever batter to achieve the feat in a T20 international. India batted first in Durban in the 2007 T20 World Cup match, and Yuvraj hit six straight sixes in the 19th over to end his knock on 58 off 16. India posted 218/4 and won the game by 18 runs.
14 years later, now retired West Indian Kieron Pollard became the second player to match Yuvraj’s feat as he hammered six sixes against Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya in Coolidge in 2021. Chasing 132 to win, Pollard smashed 36 runs in the sixth over of the innings as West Indies won by four overs in 13.1 overs.
