Most economical spells in T20 matches
T20 cricket, more often than not, is regarded as the batters’ game. However, numerous bowlers have excelled in the shortest format, producing some stellar spells which has helped their respective teams stay one step ahead in the contest. Bowlers tend to maintain razor-sharp line and length and in doing so, quite a few of them have returned jaw-dropping economical figures and added wickets under their belt. With that said, we take a look at the top three cheapest spells in T20 cricket-
3. Spencer Johnson | 0.30 economy
Donning the Oval Invincibles outfit against Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2023, Spencer Johnson returned a magnificent spell. The left-arm pacer in his 20 balls added three wickets in his account and gave just one run. With as many as 19 dot balls, Spencer maintained a brilliant economy of 0.30. His side eventually won the contest by 94 runs.
2. Mohammad Irfan | 0.25 economy
The tall, left-arm pacer from Pakistan outrightly dominated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 while playing for Barbados Tridents. In his four overs, Irfan was quite impactful as he gave just one run in his four overs which included three maidens at an economy of 0.25. In addition to this, he picked up two wickets but ended up on the losing side in the contest.
1. Akshay Karnewar, Gaurav Gambhir | 0.00 economy
In 2021, in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match, Vidarbha’s Akshay Karnewar was at his menacing best with the ball against Manipur. In his four overs, the rival batting unit failed to target him for any run as Karnewar concluded with four maidens and two wickets which helped his side win by 167 runs.
