Most double-centuries in List A cricket
Scoring a double century in a limited-over game was considered to be a very difficult task for the batters. However, with ever-improving bats, accelerated strokeplay and T20 skills in vogue, there have been many double centuries in limited overs. Only a handful of these can lay a claim to scoring two double centuries in limited-overs cricket. India’s opening batter Prithvi Shaw joined the list recently with his innings in England’s Royal London Cup.
Travis Head – 2
Head smashed his maiden List A double century back in 2015 while playing for South Australia. In Sydney, Western Australia had set them a target of 351 runs. Head was off to a flier in the chase. The opener smashed 202 and with Callum Ferguson’s 112*, SA chased 351 comfortably.
Playing in the Marsh Cup, Head struck his 2nd List A double century. Batting at number three, Head’s 230 propelled South Australia to 391/8. With Queensland ending their innings on 312, SA registered a 67-run win.
Alistair Brown – 2
It was back in 1997 that Ali Brown smashed his maiden double century in the List A format. Brown struck 203 against Hampshire in Guildford. The most astonishing fact about this double ton is that was in a 40-over game.
Brown repeated his feat in 2002 while batting against Glamorgan. Opening the innings for Surrey, Brown carted the ball around the park in his marathon knock of 268. In his 160-ball stay, the opener hit 30 fours and 12 sixes.
Prithvi Shaw – 2
Prithvi Shaw’s 227* against Puducherry in 2021 was his first double-century in List A cricket. His 152-ball innings included 31 fours and 5 sixes. This innings catapulted Mumbai to a score of 457/4.
Improving his effort this year, Shaw celebrated his 2nd List A double century in style. Batting for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup, Shaw ended with 244 runs in 153 balls with 28 fours and 11 sixes. This knock made him the first batter to score List-A centuries in different countries.
Rohit Sharma – 3
The legendary Indian batter holds the record of scoring three List-A centuries. However, all of them were scored in ODIs. His first ODI double ton was against Australia in 2013. Rohit blasted another double ton in the following year against Sri Lanka. This was his magnum opus, 264 – the highest individual score in ODI cricket.
In 2017, Rohit became the only batter with three List-A double centuries. Once again Sri Lanka faced his wrath as he amassed 208* in Mohali.
