Most consecutive Tests against an opposition without defeat
Test cricket is the oldest and the most respected format of the game as it has stood the test of time and entertained the fans over the years. There have been a few teams that have dominated this prestigious format of the game such as the West Indies in the 80-90s and Australia in the late 90s to early 2000s. There have also been a few teams that have had an upper hand over a particular opposition having beaten them on numerous occasions and been on a long unbeaten streak against them. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three teams with the longest unbeaten record against an opposition in Test cricket:
3. West Indies vs England, 29 matches, 1976-88
West Indies began their streak during the 1976 tour to England where they won the series five-match series by 3-0 under the leadership of Clive Lloyd. Their streak continued for over 12 years before it finally came to an end after a defeat in February-March 1991 by a Graham Gooch-led England side. Despite the win, England went on to lose the four-match series by 1-2.
2. England vs Pakistan, 30 matches, 1961-82
England hammered Pakistan for 21 years which began from the first Test in Lahore in October 1961 as they beat them under the leadership of Ted Dexter. Pakistan finally managed to fight back in the second Test at Lord’s in August 1982 winning the match by 10 wickets under Imran Khan’s leadership.
1. England vs New Zealand, 47 matches, 1930-75
England take the top spot as well having the longest unbeaten streak in the history of the game to their name of 47 matches. It all began during the first Test ever between the two teams in January 1930 in Christchurch where England emerged victorious by eight wickets under Harold Gilligan’s captaincy. The streak continued for 45-long years until New Zealand won their first-ever Test against England in February 1978 by 72 runs under Mark Burgess.
