Most centuries in a calendar year

Several batters play well for their team for a few matches or series, but there have been others who have owned a whole year after giving some swashbuckling performance with the bat and scoring many runs for their country. On that note, let us take a look at the top three batters with the most centuries in a calendar year.

3. Hashim Amla and Arvinda de Silva (Ten centuries)

Former South Africa batter Hashim Amla was a class apart. The right-handed batter was one of the most compact batters to play for the Proteas. In 2010, Amla scored 2307 runs at an outstanding average of almost 77 as he smashed ten centuries in that year. Similarly, Sri Lanka veteran Arvinda de Silva also stroked a total of ten centuries and scored 2432 runs in 1997.

2. Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting (11 centuries)

Australia World-Cup winning skipper Ricky Ponting was in some excellent touch during 2003. To note, the Men in Yellow also won the World Cup under his leadership that year. Ponting amassed a total of 2657 runs at an excellent average of 66.42 and smashed 11 centuries in that year.

Indian run-machine Virat Kohli has also achieved the same feat and that too twice as the right-handed batter stroked 11 hundreds in both 2017 and 2018. Kohli was simply unstoppable during these two years as he played at an average of around 70 in both these years and helped India to clinch many memorable victories.

1. Sachin Tendulkar (12 centuries)

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar tops this elite list after smashing 12 centuries in a calendar year. The veteran batter achieved this feat in 1998 when he smashed 2541 runs at an average of 68.67. Sachin played an excellent brand of cricket that year and helped the team to clinch several memorable wins.
