Most centuries in 4th innings of a Test

Younis

Batting last in the fourth innings of a Test match is always challenging and tough. On spinning tracks, it becomes even more difficult for a batter to chase the target or save the match for his side. Reaching the three-figure mark in the final innings of the match shows the utmost quality and skills of a batter and one such batter is Younis Khan who has the most centuries to his name in the fourth innings in Test history.

The right-handed batter struck five centuries batting in the last innings of a Test match. Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Graeme Smith are all tied in the second spot for smashing four tons each.

In 47 matches and 40 fourth innings appearances, Younis amassed 1465 runs at an average of 50.51, which also included six half-centuries. His highest score of 171* against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in the year 2015 remains the best individual score for Pakistan in the fourth innings of a successful run-chase.

Chasing a mammoth target of 377, Younis played a blinder of a knock to seal a famous seven-wicket victory for Pakistan seven years back. He faced 271 deliveries and smashed 18 fours in one of his most memorable innings that came in a winning cause. It also won the series for Pakistan 2-1 in the Island nation.

Three of his five tons came in a rescue act in drawn encounters against South Africa in Lahore and Dubai in 2007 and 2010 respectively. The third knock came against arch-rivals India in Kolkata in 2007. Speaking about the Lahore match, Pakistan were chasing a target of 457 and they managed to pull off a draw with a score of 316/4 as Younis scored 130.

In Dubai, the Asian giants were chasing 451 and posted 343/3 thanks to unbeaten innings of 131* from Younis. Against India, they were set a target of 345 and the batter who was also the skipper of the side made 107 not out to save the match for Pakistan.
