Morgan is for England, what Dhoni used to be for India: Graeme Swann

MS Dhoni

After facing a humiliating defeat against India in the four-match Test series by 3-1, England is all set to lock horns against the same opponents in the five-match T20I series followed by three One Day Internationals, starting from March 12 at newly-built Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the marquee series, former England spinner Graeme Swann backed the English side to leave behind the demons of the Test series and present a stunning show in the limited-overs format.

Graeme Swann seemed highly impressed with England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan and believes that the visitors will be dominating the game under the leadership of Morgan. Swann heaped praises on the limited-overs skipper saying that Morgan is what MS Dhoni was to India, a captain and a leader.

“Eoin Morgan is going to have a good series. He’s the leader, he goes in the middle order but it’s more on the field. He is for England, what MS Dhoni used to be for India, is the captain and leader,” Swann told Star Sports.

“He’s got a lot of stature in that team and the players play for him. I think the T20 series will depend on how Eoin Morgan goes. If he has a good series with the captaincy and the bat, I think England will be very strong,” Swann added.

Swann backs Dawid Malan apart from Eoin Morgan

Apart from Morgan, the former spinner feels that the No.1 ranked batsman in the T20I batsmen rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Dawid Malan will do wonders in the T20I series against India as he knows how to play spin well, Also, the veteran asserted that the Indian pitches will suit the 33-year-old.

“I think Dawid Malan will do well. He is a very good player of spin bowling. He is a very strong player through the off-side as well. The Indian grounds should suit him as the wickets don’t tend to turn too much in T20 cricket. They are good batting wickets for the most part with quick outfields. You should be excited to watch him play as he has been phenomenal over the last couple of years,” Swann signed off.
