Mohammed Siraj reclaims the No. 1 spot in the latest ODI rankings
India’s fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj, has reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC ODI bowler rankings, released on September 20, 2023. This surge in rankings marks a significant jump of six positions for Siraj, who previously held the seventh spot. The Indian pacer has now overtaken Australia’s Josh Hazlewood.
Siraj’s phenomenal performance in the Asia Cup played a pivotal role in his surge in the ranking. His exceptional spell of 6/21 during the final not only led India to victory but also earned him the top spot in the ODI bowling rankings. Throughout the tournament, the Hyderabad-born star bowler displayed amazing figures, taking ten wickets at an average of 12.2.
This exceptional performance allowed Siraj to surpass renowned bowlers like Hazlewood, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, and Mitchell Starc. Therefore, solidifying his position as the world’s best ODI bowler.
Meanwhile, the Afghan spin duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan also witnessed improvements in their rankings. They secured the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, within the top 10.
Beyond the top rankings, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj showcased an impressive comeback after recovering from an injury. Maharaj played a vital role in helping the Proteas clinch series victory, even after losing the initial two games.
His exceptional performance, including a remarkable 4-33 in the fifth ODI. It earned him eight wickets in the series at an average of 16.87, with an economy rate of just 4.07. This outstanding display propelled him to the 15th position, marking a ten-place rise from his previous career-high.
Heinrich Klaasen enters Top 10 rankings
In the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa secured a spot in the top 10 following his explosive innings against Australia. Klaasen’s record-breaking knock of 174 runs at a strike rate of 209.64, played a pivotal role in South Africa’s victory. This remarkable performance propelled Klaasen an impressive 20 places up the rankings, securing the ninth position.
