Mitchell Starc set to miss first Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy
Australia ace pacer Mitchell Starc has provided a major update on his injury. Confirming that he will definitely have to miss the first Test against India in the upcoming all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
This comes as a big blow for Australia, provided they will have to face India in an away series. Starc had sustained a lethal finger injury in the Test series against South Africa back in December 2022, and has been out of cricketing action ever since.

“I am track..still a couple of weeks and then probably meet the guys in Delhi..after..hopefully, a first Test match win..get myself into training over there,” the 33-year-old was heard saying in a video released from the Cricket Australia’s awards, when the tall, lanky pace bowler was questioned about his fitness by the host.

To give an update on what Starc is actually referring about, he is yet to fully recover from his finger injury, so much so that he will definitely have to let go off the opening Test. He will be able to join his teammates in the series in India from the second Test.
Starc has been a key bowler for the Aussies on most occassions, leading their pace attack to dismantle opposition batters. Also to give them a tough time delivering those unplayable toe-crushing yorkers, coupled with massive pace.
Mitchell Starc stated that playing India in India would be a great challenge. He is really looking forward to it and Australia would by all means have to put their best foot forward. The race to the all-important World Test Championship finals to be played later this year has gained a lot of momentum.
“I guess you never really know what to expect from the conditions in India but we have a fair idea, that it is obviously going to turn. You never quite know until you start the game or decide which wicket to play on. So, it is going to be a great challenge,” Starc said on the sidelines of the Australia Cricket Awards.
“The team is in as good a position that we can be heading into an Indian tour. It’s exciting with the women going for the World Cup and we have a long tour of India. So plenty of good cricket to watch over the next couple of months, so we’re just wishing for some good success for Australia,” he signed off.
