Mitchell Marsh set to join Delhi Capitals after being ruled out of Pakistan series with injury
Injured Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will join his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals after being ruled out of white-ball series against Pakistan. To note, Marsh had injured his hip flexor while doing fielding drills on March 27 (Sunday). As a result, he also missed the first ODI match in which Australia came on top, beating Pakistan by 88 runs in Lahore on March 29.
Delhi Capitals bagged the services of the 30-year-old after purchasing him for INR 6.5 crore in the mega auction held last month. The right-handed batter will now do his recovery under the observation of physiotherapist Patrick Farhart, who has been with the Capitals since the 2020 IPL season.
Marsh will travel to India to link with the Delhi Capitals: Cricket Australia
“Marsh will travel to India to link with the Delhi Capitals squad where former Australian and current New South Wales physiotherapist Pat Farhart will manage his recovery following an isolation period,” Cricket Australia said in a statement on March 30 (Wednesday).
It is to be noted that Marsh was originally going to miss the first three matches for his IPL franchise as he was a part of Australian squad taking on Pakistan in three ODIs and a one-off T20I.
“Being able to focus on my recovery without the travel and isolation break is the best approach. I am disappointed to miss the Pakistan series but look forward to re-joining the Australian squad for our next tour,” Marsh said.
Talking about Marsh’s IPL career, the right-handed batter has scored a total of 225 runs in 21 matches he has played. The numbers do not reflect his true colours, as he only averages 17.31. In bowling, the right-arm-pacer has scalped a total of 20 wickets in biggest cricketing league of the world.
The 30-year-old played a crucial role for his side in the final match of 2021 T20 World Cup, scoring an unbeaten 77 in the final against New Zealand to help Australia clinch their maiden title.
