Michael Vaughan wants Rohit Sharma to lead India in T20Is
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckons that Rohit Sharma should be the captain of the Indian T20I team. For the time being, Rohit is the vice-captain of his national team in the limited-overs formats and stands in only when Virat Kohli, the regular captain, isn’t available. Sharma is also the most successful skipper in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
On Tuesday, November 10, he helped Mumbai Indians (MI) win their fifth IPL trophy in the last eight seasons. MI beat the Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets with eight balls to spare in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After being asked to chase 157, MI, on the back of Rohit’s 68 off 51 balls with five fours and four sixes, got over the line comfortably.
The run-chase was pretty comfortable for Mumbai as they never found themselves behind the 8-ball, chipping away at the target with comfort. As per Vaughan, Sharma knows the art of winning T20 games and managing his players. He also reckons that if Rohit gets appointed as the captain in the shorter format, Kohli, who turned 32 earlier this month, could get a breathing space.

Rohit started the tournament with a couple of handy knocks. He also became the third batsman after Kohli and Suresh Raina to score over 5,000 runs in the IPL. However, a hamstring strain after the double Super Over clash against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) threatened to end his campaign.
He had to sit out from the eleven, and Kieron Pollard had to stand in for him. He was also excluded from the ODI, Test and T20I squads for India’s tour of Australia. Nevertheless, Sharma made his return in MI’s last league match and was later added to the Test squad as well.
