Michael Hussey recovers from COVID-19; likely to fly Australia soon

Former Australia batsman and Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has recovered from COVID-19 and is set to fly back home on Sunday. Notably, Australia has imposed a travel ban on people from India owing to the significant rise in the Covid-19 cases in the Asian nation in the last few months.

The Australian government and PM Scott Morrison received plenty of flak by the former players for the same, with Michael Slater calling him out publicly on Twitter for treating the nation’s citizens in such away. Due to the travel restrictions, around 40 Australians who were a part of the Indian Premier League in different capacities (players, commentators, etc.) were left stranded.

After the BCCI and IPL Governing Council took the call to curtail the 14th edition of the league midway after cases emerged inside the bio-secure environment, the whole of Australia’s IPL contingent took the route of Maldives as a temporary post until the ban is uplifted.

Have not decided when he is going to fly: CSK CEO

Informing about Hussey’s situation, CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanathan on Friday told that, “Hussey has returned with negative RT-PCR results and has recovered well. We haven’t yet decided when he is going to fly back and which route he will take – Maldives or Australia,”

In a recent development, the Maldives has banned travel across all South Asian nations due to the same reason, which means that Michael Hussey might have to stay in India should Australia extend the travel restrictions, which are currently in place until 15th May (Saturday).

Meanwhile, India Test keeper Wriddhiman Saha has returned another positive test and remains in isolation with an eye on joining the squad bio-bubble in Mumbai on May 25.

“My quarantine period is still not over. Out of the two tests done, one was negative, and the other one came as positive. Otherwise, I am doing much better. Requesting everyone not to spread misleading stories/information without whole context,” the Sunrisers Hyderabad player posted his statement on Twitter.

Both Hussey and Saha had first tested positive during the now suspended IPL.
